Crimson Moon Nephilim and Angels
Forbidden blood, a chosen Angel, and a form that can still die.
A Nephilim in Crimson Moon is a human-angel hybrid sworn as a Knight of the Crimson Moon. Official copy calls you violent, forged, and bound. Gameplay calls you a loadout. This page is the character read: what the fantasy allows, how Angel Mode works, and why Sunder matters later. For button-level melee, stay on combat. For slot math, stay on builds.
Hybrid, not holy paladin
The Order needs a weapon that can walk into Hellgrowth and come back with a stone. That weapon is you. Trailers show wing silhouettes, gold filigree, and executions that would get a paladin excommunicated. The Lunatarian Church still lets you sleep in the nave. Hold both ideas. You are tolerated because you work.
There is no advertised alignment meter. You do not lose Angel Mode for being cruel. You lose it for being sloppy. Gauge comes from attacking and killing. The form is a war crime with a duration bar.
Angel Mode
You choose an Angel at the loadout station before every hunt. Combined with gear, arts, and Boons, the Angel completes the build. Fill the gauge in the ward. Trigger the transformation when a room or a boss phase actually needs it. Official explainers warn that you can still die in the form if you enter on low health. Damage and duration scale with equipment rarity, which is why Gajov is part of the character, not just the economy.
An achievement asks you to trigger Angel Mode five times. That is the game teaching spend discipline. Hoarding the gauge for a cinematic that never comes is how ward bosses eat you while you are still mortal. Spending it on the first three zombies is how ward bosses eat you while you are on cooldown.
AMAs confirmed ranged options live mostly in Weapon Arts, not in a second caster body. The Angel is a multiplier for the knight you already are. It is not a way to skip learning parries.
Sunder and later forms
Pre-launch explainers name a second Angel form to unlock later: Sunder. You still choose which Angel you take before the mission. That means Sunder is a loadout option, not an in-fight morph you stumble into. When the launched skill list publishes the difference — more damage, more wings, different art — this page will say so. Until then, plan as if you have one form you understand and one form you are working toward.
Do not rebuild your entire armor set around a form you have not unlocked. Build a mortal kit that still works when the gauge is empty. The closer identity on the early builds page is the exception, and even that identity needs on-hit weapons to fill the bar.
Body, loadout, and the “multiple characters” preview
Game Informer described choosing from multiple characters with their own builds in the hub. That can mean presets, appearance bodies, or a small roster. It does not mean five heroes with unique ultimate names like a live-service shooter. Crimson Moon’s public system language is always the four layers: gear, arts, Boons, Angel. Until the select screen is captured on day one, treat extra bodies as different starting closets, not as missing classes.
Co-op does not merge Angels. Two hunters can transform, and two hunters can waste the form together. Stagger. See co-op.
Roleplay without a journal dump
If you came here for lore: forbidden union, chains, prophecy, hail the Order. The story page has the city. This page only insists that the player character is a person the Church is afraid of and a tool the Order cannot replace. Play like that. Spend lives like they are borrowed. Spend the Angel like it is stolen fire.
When you know the body, pick a weapon that lets the gauge fill without emptying your stamina into a missed art. That pairing is the real character creator.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you enter Gildenarch.
What is a Nephilim in Crimson Moon?
A half-human, half-angel knight of the Order of the Crimson Moon, built to reclaim Gildenarch with melee, arts, and an Angel transformation.
Can I change Angels during a hunt?
No. You select the Angel at Sanctus Clypeus before the mission. Mid-hunt you play the form you brought.
What is Sunder?
A second Angel form mentioned in pre-launch explainers as a later unlock. It is still chosen at the loadout station once available.
Does rarity really affect Angel Mode?
Yes. Official coverage says how hard the form hits and how long it lasts scales with equipment rarity. Visit Gajov.
