Crimson Moon Early hunt builds
Four identities you can purify before you own the whole closet.
A Crimson Moon build is a sentence you can say at the loadout station: what you hit with, what your art does, what Boons you want, and which Angel finishes the room. There are no classes to unlock. There are two starter loadouts and then whatever you purify. This page offers four identities that match official systems without pretending we have a live damage meter. Read the builds hub for the model, weapons for arts, and armor for the four-piece rule.
1. Shield knight — the default first hunt
Job: Hold space, parry, poke. Weapon: One-hander plus shield. The art should be a projectile or a short radius so you are not empty when a vampire sidesteps. Armor: Defensive collection. You will miss a parry. The set should forgive that. Boons: Perfect-guard, stamina, or art cooldown. Refuse glass-cannon picks. Angel: A form you can trigger after a parry string, not a form that asks you to sprint past the pack.
This is the getting started kit. It is also the co-op kit when your friend insisted on a two-hander. Purify the shield if it is the piece that kept you alive. Gajov to rare is the week-one trophy.
2. Two-hand executioner
Job: Break poise, take executions, end elites. Weapon: Two-hander with a slam or gap-close art. Armor: Aggressive set. You are in the blast radius on purpose. Boons: Stagger, heavy-attack, execution windows. Stamina if the heavies are hungry. Angel: Save the gauge for the elite you cannot stagger fairly.
Do not take this into Forsaken Streets until you have landed a perfect parry on the shield kit. Lives are a resource, not a personality. In co-op, this identity lives behind a knight.
3. Art battery
Job: Press the Weapon Art every room. Weapon: Whatever art you actually used in the gameplay overview, as long as it is a projectile or radius you understand. Armor: Pieces that feed resource, cooldown, or the damage type of the art. Fashion is last. Boons: Only Boons that mention the art, stamina, or the element the art already has. Angel: A transformation that covers you when the art is on cooldown.
This is the “is there magic?” build. You are still a melee character. The art is the spellbook. If you go three rooms without firing it, you are secretly playing shield knight with extra steps. Purify that weapon even if a prettier drop rolled in the same chest.
4. Angel closer
Job: Reach the ward boss with a full gauge and rarity that makes the form last. Weapon: Whatever you can keep on-hit with, because gauge comes from attacking and killing. Armor: Highest rarity you can honestly wear as a set. Angel power scales with rarity. Boons: Gauge, duration, or on-hit. Not random thorns. Angel: Your strongest unlocked form. Sunder is the later option; until it unlocks, play the one you have.
This identity fails if you transform on the first pack. It succeeds if loot has been going to Gajov. It is a mid-week build, not a prologue build.
How to swap without wrecking the closet
Change one layer per hunt. New weapon, same armor. New Angel, same art. If you change all four, you cannot tell what worked. Sanctus Clypeus will let you be chaotic. The War Table will punish it on a three-district streak.
In co-op, assign identities out loud. Two art batteries with no knight is a wipe waiting for an elite grab. Two closers who transform together go mortal together. Complementary sentences are the real “tier list.”
What we will not rank yet
Exact percentages, hidden unique effects, and a full thirty-weapon ladder. Those need a launched client. When they exist, this page will promote or bury identities with evidence. Until September 1, play the sentence you can execute. A messy S-tier spreadsheet will not parry for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you enter Gildenarch.
What is the best Crimson Moon build right now?
For a first hunt, the shield knight identity is the honest answer. Letter-rank lists before launch would be guesses.
Can I respec?
You rebuild at the loadout station between hunts. There is no class respec because there is no class. Purification expands options rather than locking a tree.
Do Deluxe or First Look sets make a better build?
They change how you look. Stats still come from purification, rarity, Boons, and the Angel you pick. See armor.
Should my co-op partner copy my build?
No. Pair a space-holder with a killer or stagger your Angels. Copying doubles the same weakness. See co-op.
