Crimson Moon Platforms and release
PS5, Xbox, Steam, Epic — all versions explained.
Crimson Moon launches worldwide on September 1, 2026 across four storefronts: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (including Xbox One via backward compatibility), Steam, and the Epic Games Store. This page covers what each platform offers, cross-generation support, and the technical details that matter before you wishlist or pre-order.
PlayStation 5
The PS5 version was confirmed first, at the February 12, 2026 State of Play that revealed the game. The release supports all PS5 hardware variants including the standard model and the PS5 Pro. Resolution targets 4K Ultra HD with HDR10 support on compatible displays. The DualSense controller brings adaptive trigger feedback to weapon arts and charged attacks.
Trophy support is full and syncs through your PlayStation Network account. Save data transfers between PS5 consoles via cloud storage if you upgrade hardware mid-playthrough. The PS5 version does not support cross-platform play with Xbox at launch.
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
The Xbox version supports Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One through Microsoft’s Smart Delivery and backward-compatibility programs. If you buy the title on an Xbox One and later upgrade to a Series console, the optimized version downloads automatically without additional purchase.
Cross-generation co-op works seamlessly: a player on Xbox One can team up with a friend on Xbox Series X|S. Cloud Saves via Xbox Cloud Gaming ensure your progress is available across any console tied to your Microsoft account.
Online co-op on Xbox requires an active Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate subscription. This is a requirement for online multiplayer on Microsoft consoles regardless of whether you own the base game. Single-player mode works without any subscription.
PC — Steam and Epic Games Store
The PC version ships simultaneously on Steam (store.steampowered.com) and the Epic Games Store. Both versions include the full campaign, all platforms, and co-op support. Steam achievements and Epic achievements track independently.
The system requirements page covers minimum and recommended hardware in detail. Key points: the game requires Windows 10 64-bit, a GTX 1070 or equivalent for 1080p60, and approximately 30 GB of storage space.
Steam Cloud and Epic Cloud Saves handle progress syncing for the PC version. Cross-platform play between Steam and Epic is not supported at launch.
Cross-Platform Progression
Progress does not transfer between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC ecosystems. A save file created on Steam cannot be loaded on the Epic Games Store version, and neither PC version can share progress with console versions. If you play on multiple platforms, treat each as a separate character.
This is standard industry practice for cross-platform releases that span competing storefronts. ProbablyMonsters has not announced a unified account system.
What the editions include on each platform
Both Standard ($19.99) and Deluxe ($29.99) editions are available on every platform. The content is identical across storefronts: same cosmetics, same expansion promise, same base game. The editions page breaks down what the Deluxe adds beyond the Standard.
Pre-order bonuses are uniform across platforms as well. The First Look armor sets (Moonlight Oath, Mahkten, Ram, Vampire) come from completing community quests on the official First Look site, not from any storefront pre-order.
Cloud saves and data transfer
Each platform handles saves natively:
- PlayStation 5: PSN cloud storage, automatic with an active subscription.
- Xbox: Xbox Cloud Saves, automatic with your Microsoft account.
- Steam: Steam Cloud, automatic when signed in.
- Epic Games Store: Epic Cloud Saves, automatic when signed in.
There is no cross-platform save import tool. Start fresh on each platform you play.
Which platform should you choose
The honest answer depends on your social circle. If your friends are on Xbox, buy Xbox. If they are on PS5, buy PS5. PC offers the highest potential resolution and frame rate but requires your own hardware. The game itself is identical across all four versions.
If you are playing solo and your hardware supports it, PC often has the fastest load times and most stable frame pacing. The system requirements page can help you decide whether your PC will run it at your desired settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I play with friends on different platforms?
Cross-platform play is not supported at launch. PS5 players can only co-op with PS5 players. Xbox players (both One and Series) can play together. PC players on Steam cannot join Epic players, and neither PC platform can join console co-op.
Q: Do I need a subscription to play solo?
No. Single-player mode works without any subscription on all platforms. Xbox online co-op requires Game Pass Essential or higher.
Q: Does the game support 120fps on next-gen consoles?
Performance targets are 4K60 on Series X and PS5. 120Hz support depends on your display and the final released version. Check the official store pages for the most accurate performance mode information.
Q: Is there a physical release?
A physical edition is available for PlayStation 5 at launch. See the physical release page for regional details. Xbox and PC are digital-only at launch.
Q: Can I transfer my save between platforms?
No. Saves are platform-specific and cannot be transferred between PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or Epic Games Store.
